Platelet products must be stored within a precise temperature range and with continuous agitation. They have a very limited shelf life. Blood suppliers invest a great deal of resources to collect, manufacture, and deliver platelet products to hospitals.
For these reasons, platelets tend to be in short supply, and blood banks are constantly challenged to make sure adequate inventory is available to meet patient needs. This means it is essential to have a reliable platelet storage system that users can depend on to meet their requirements.
When new products are developed, customer feedback is extremely important. Helmer Scientific placed a Pro Line Countertop Platelet Storage System at a large teaching hospital as part of our development process. This enabled users to experience the platelet incubator and agitator in a real-world setting and provide feedback to the development team at Helmer.
The evaluation confirmed that the Pro Line platelet incubator and agitator provided the proper temperature range and continuous agitation required for platelet storage. Other considerations that were important to our evaluation site included reliable operation, sound level, and ease of use.
