Clinical laboratories are responsible for storing temperature-sensitive reagents and patient samples. To safeguard their integrity, it is critical to ensure that these items are stored within strict temperature ranges. Medical-grade refrigeration with added intelligence supports regulatory compliance and helps reduce the risk of financial loss.
The CAP All Common Checklist states that if a reagent manufacturer specifies a required temperature range, the temperature must be monitored daily. In addition, if a lab identifies a problem with a reagent that was used for patient testing (including unacceptable storage conditions), the possible impact on test results must be evaluated and records of the evaluation and actions taken retained.
The i.C3® Information Center supports clinical laboratory compliance by monitoring the temperature inside a laboratory refrigerator or freezer and activating alarms if the temperature rises or falls outside of the acceptable range. In addition, the i.C3® stores temperature data and an event log which can be downloaded via USB. The download functionality provides a record that supports compliance by demonstrating consistency with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Labs also need to show evidence of corrective action taken if acceptable temperature ranges are exceeded, including evaluation for adverse effects. The i.C3® event log includes event acknowledgement functionality which enables users to document corrective actions. Downloading the event log provides a record of the action taken.
A series of videos has been created to demonstrate the features of the i.C3® Information Center. The video below provides a demonstration of the download functionality included in the i.C3®.
