However, the chief of pharmacy had a plan that would both improve patient care and operational efficiency. He wanted to turn the hospital into a state-of-the-art facility that could be used as a blueprint for government health systems around the country. His hope was to attract new talent, improve public perception of the facility, and capitalize on the efficiencies of standardized equipment. His plan included replacing more than 65 pieces of legacy cold storage pharmacy equipment with state-of-the-art models. These models would provide superior temperature uniformity, stability, and recovery to keep critical vaccines and medications safe and effective. The new units would be strategically placed in the central pharmacy and in highly visible areas throughout the nursing floors. The chief pharmacist chose Helmer Scientific to help him realize his goal.
