Why High School Internships Work

Before spending mounds of money for college tuition and working hard in every class, wouldn’t it be great to know you were going to love your career path after graduating? We know that high school students are faced with challenging timelines to, not only, discover their college choice, but decide their career direction. With that said, wouldn’t it be helpful for high school students to have a familiar grasp on the currently preferred industry or trade before deciding on these critical factors? High school internships are available to assist with these challenges. A high school internship exposes students to experiences that don’t happen in the classroom, providing on-the-job training before heavily investing in a career path.

High School Internships add a whole new level of impact to classroom instruction – involving actual experience. Students learn first-hand about communication, collaboration, and being on time. Through these internships, students are given professional projects which require critical thinking to complete objectives, and are able to learn and leverage industry applications.

Helmer Scientific is actively engaged in internship programs with Noblesville High School. For the last two years, we have had 4-6 students each school year that work at Helmer during one of their class periods 2-3 times per week. These students currently fill positions in accounting, engineering, technical service, and customer service.

In addition, we work with Conexus, an organization that places high school students in manufacturing internships during the summer. These students fill positions in purchasing, engineering, safety, and continuous improvement.
