Medical Lab Management recently released their 3rd Annual State of Laboratory Technology Survey Results, which included questions related to the adoption of medical-grade refrigerators and freezers. This year's survey results are based on responses from 376 Clinical Laboratory Directors from hospitals ranging in sizes from fewer than 100 beds to over 400 beds.According to the 2016 survey (released in November 2016), only 34% of Laboratory Directors have reported that their laboratory has completed the adoption of medical-grade cold storage, and 58% of respondents indicated that they use a mix of medical-grade and non-medical grade equipment. Only 8% of Laboratory Directors reported that they have not started their transition to medical-grade refrigerators and freezers.

As hospital laboratories continue to drive improvement, precise and reliable cold storage will remain an important area of investment.  Medical-grade refrigeration is critical to maintain compliance in certain parts of the laboratory and has been widely adopted to support patient safety and improve operations by protecting sensitive and expensive reagents and controls, as well as safeguarding irreplaceable patient samples and biologic-based therapies.2016_MLM_Survey_Graphic.jpg

Consistent with results from last year's survey, over 50% of Lab Directors continue to report that Helmer Scientific cold storage is one of the vendor systems in use.  These results indicate that Helmer remains a commonly considered brand by this group of Laboratory Directors.
