As hospitals continue to drive continuous improvement across laboratories, ensuring precise and reliable laboratory refrigerators and freezers continues to be an area of focus and investment. Medical-grade refrigeration is critical to maintain compliance in blood banks. In addition, medical-grade cold storage has been widely adopted in other clinical laboratories in the hospital to support patient safety and improve operations by protecting sensitive and expensive reagents and controls.

Medical Lab Management recently released their 2nd Annual State of Laboratory Technology edition. This report included a survey of 377 US Laboratory Directors and Administrators to better understand trends related to technology acquisition and utilization. Focus areas for the survey included technology categories in which the Laboratory Director or Administrator have greatest influence in acquisition decisions, which included Laboratory Refrigerators and Freezers. According to this 2015 survey (released in November 2015), over a third of laboratory respondents are planning to purchase new cold storage, often to replace older, non-medical-grade equipment. Over 50% of Lab Managers and Administrators reported that Helmer Scientific equipment was being considered for new purchases, making Helmer one of the most commonly considered brands for laboratory cold storage.
