Strong Futures: Burrito Blitz

Posted on Jun 15, 2018 by Donna Holpuch

burrito-blitz-blogHelmer Scientific team members are wrapping up burritos at breakneck speed. What do burritos have to do with a Super Service Challenge project? The Burrito Blitz is a volunteer program with Outreach Inc. in Indianapolis. Groups are encouraged to volunteer and make burritos for homeless youth in Indianapolis who come to the Outreach facility in need of a meal.

The Helmer team spent the afternoon preparing taco meat and wrapping nearly 100 burritos for the Burrito Blitz this week. Sandie Anselm, a sales representative for Helmer, stated “Wrapping burritos is such a small thing that we can do to help these youth. I always think of homeless youths as being part of a family. Realizing that they are truly on their own and couch surfing night to night with no permanent place to go was eye opening. Outreach Inc offers a safe haven and helps to transition their life to a better place.”

Outreach Inc. is a nonprofit that reaches out to homeless youth in Indianapolis. For over 20 years, Outreach Inc. has been offering supportive services for youth ages 14-24.
