In a ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis last night, Helmer Scientific was honored with the 2013 Governor's Service Award for Corporate Service. The Governor's Service Awards are the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives' most prestigious awards for volunteer service.
Helmer Global Initiatives (HGI), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program of Helmer Scientific was initiated in 2003. The mission is to spread a culture of generosity by engaging individuals and organizations locally and globally at their highest level of capability to provide aid and justice for poor and vulnerable people. Since inception, at least 10% of Helmer Scientific profit has been used to make an impact on society through active philanthropy and volunteerism.
Accepting the award on behalf of Helmer Scientific was David Helmer, Owner and Chairman. He attributes the award to the integration of a philosophy of generosity throughout the company's culture. Over the course of 2012, Helmer Scientific employees volunteered 2,300 hours with non-profit organizations and raised over $12,000 for local organizations. In addition, over $250,000 was donated to 13 local and non-profit organizations. Each initiative is driven by Helmer employees who establish and recruit core group volunteers who share a passion for their cause. The result of this engagement is that 200+ employees are given the regular opportunity to explore their gifts and talents through volunteerism.
