DREAM Alive’s DREAM Christmas Celebration, hosted at the Indianapolis Colts’ complex, brings joy to children and their families who have been forced from their homes to emergency shelters due to domestic violence. The Christmas season is an especially tough time of year, and DREAM Christmas provides a brief moment of hope where they can forget their difficulties and receive the love of their community.
DREAM Alive Scholars are 7th – 12th grade youth in at-risk communities working towards becoming civic-minded leaders. They receive site-based mentoring from staff and coaches until they graduate from high school. The scholars are empowered to become agents of change in the community as they host the event and are paired with a child in need. They welcome the child and their family to the event and provide a special Christmas gift to the child. Employees of local businesses, including Helmer Scientific, assist the DREAM Alive Scholars with shopping and wrapping gifts, and hosting the event.
DREAM Christmas is a meaningful event for the Scholars and corporate partners alike as they come together to bring cheer for those most in need.
