Helmer Scientific, a leading manufacturer of laboratory equipment and refrigerated products for the life science industry, is partnering with Global Healing, a leading non-profit organization devoted to providing modern medical equipment, training, and supplies to the developing world, to present Haiti: From Earthquake to State-of-the-Art Teaching Hospital at AABB CTTXPO in Boston. The presentation will be held on October 7, 2012 from 9:00 to 10:00am EST in the Helmer Booth #541 on the exhibit hall floor.
The program will be presented by Mr. David Walton of Partners in Health, a non-profit health care organization dedicated to providing a "preferential option for the poor." The presentation will highlight the Mirebalais National Teaching Hospital project led by Partners in Health in Haiti. The hospital is scheduled to open in late 2012 and will include an 180,000-square foot, 320-bed hospital that will offer a level of care never before available at a public facility in Haiti. In addition, the hospital will provide high-quality education for the next generation of Haitian nurses, medical students, and resident physicians.
Global Healing is working closely with Partners in Health to establish a transfusion service at Mirebalais Hospital. They will be playing an integral role in the function of the hospital by installing its blood banking equipment and providing ongoing training. Through their long-time partnership with Global Healing, Helmer Scientific will provide the blood bank equipment used in the new Mirebalais Hospital through its Helmer Global Initiatives (HGI) program. The mission of HGI is to spread a culture of generosity by engaging individuals and organizations at their highest level of capability to provide aid and justice for poor and vulnerable people.
The presentation will take place during VIP hours on Sunday morning before the opening of the AABB exhibit floor and will require a VIP pass for entry. VIP passes will be available at the Helmer booth (541) on Saturday night, October 6, at the CTTXPO opening event, or by contacting Helmer in advance. A drawing will be held for a limited number of Paul Farmer's book "Haiti After the Earthquake."
