Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) has implemented the Haemonetics® BloodTrack® Software System! The Haemonetics BloodTrack System is designed to improve efficiency and safety of storing and dispensing blood products at the point-of-care. This is accomplished through a system that combines software with hardware components, providing clinicians with safe, fast access to blood products where and when they are needed. BloodTrack HaemoBank® Devices, manufactured by Helmer Scientific for Haemonetics, are a critical part of this system. These specialized software controlled devices ensure blood components are properly stored and handled by authorized caregivers and electronically record transactions for a complete audit trial.
Transitioning to the BloodTrack System was a priority for CHFT to improve patient safety; previously manual processes were used to manage allocation which introduced risk for serious errors that could cause severe harm to patients. For this reason CHFT was committed to rapid adoption of the BloodTrack system. The CHFT team divided the project into 3 phases. Phase 1 and 2 focused on electronically tracking red cells, platelets, and other blood components using the system. This implementation phase was completed in a one year period and CHFT is now focused on Phase 3. Phase 3 extends the quality and safety of the blood bank to areas closer to patient treatment areas by enabling the remote issue of blood components.
