The Helmer refrigerator donated to the Berkeley Free Clinic in August is now installed and being used to hold the clinic’s valuable supply of vaccines and medical and dental injectable antibiotics. Clinic volunteers stated, “It’s very helpful! We’re loving it and we’ve never had a pharmacy fridge so nice.”

Many of the volunteers at the clinic are students and will go on to medical and dental programs around the country after a few years of volunteer work with the clinic. The Berkeley Free Clinic was started as a project for graduate students in Social Work in cooperation with progressive business owners, health workers, and public health officials. Today the clinic serves 15,000 uninsured and underinsured individuals in the Bay Area annually.
