Each October, the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) celebrates the accomplishments of pharmacists and their ever increasing role on the patient care team. The month focuses on educating patients, the public, policy makers, and other healthcare professionals about the pharmacists expanding role in the delivery of care. The theme this year is, “Know your pharmacist, know your medicine.”
American Pharmacists Month is a way to motivate and appreciate the pharmacy profession, while highlighting the profession’s impact on improving medication use and enhancing patient care. The more the community interacts with their pharmacists the better they will understand and adhere to their medications. During October, APhA works hard to promote additional services offered by pharmacists which expand way beyond medication distribution.
Pharmacist are able to offer education on general wellness and disease prevention, seasonal and lifespan immunizations, medication safety and effectiveness assessments, medication interactions and adherence, care and counseling for diseases states, and so much more.
APhA provides tons of great resources for pharmacists to help promote their profession to their practice, in the community, on campus, online, and in the media. Promote APhA on social media. Use the hashtag #APhM2017 on Twitter and Facebook to expand the reach of your message. APhA will also be tweeting a pharmacy fact every day in October, so retweet and share! APhA has filled this site with creative ideas and activates to help pharmacists voice the important of their profession.
