Influenza viruses circulate heavily in the Unites States each year from October to May. The virus can spread up to 6 feet from an infected individual. Although the flu is often treatable with rest, influenza can cause serious illness or even death in at risk individuals such as very young children, pregnant women, those suffering from chronic conditions, and adults over the age of 65. On average, 200,000 people are hospitalized with the flu each year.

Flu vaccinations help prevent influenza related hospitalizations and deaths. Children as young as 6 months can receive the flu shot. The CDC warns against the use of the nasal spray flu vaccine as it appeared ineffective last year. Please remember that it takes two weeks for people to develop antibodies after vaccination. All eligible children and adults are highly encouraged to get vaccinated against the flu.
