At Helmer Scientific, we are looking forward to our 37th consecutive year of exhibiting at the AABB Annual Meeting. This year’s meeting takes place in Orlando, Florida, October 22 – 25, 2016. Helmer Scientific will be located at Booth #1237.
The AABB Annual Meeting is the premiere event for healthcare professionals in the fields of transfusion medicine and cellular therapies. It provides attendees with a venue to discover the latest innovations within the blood industry while providing hands-on access to recent developments. During this conference, members of the Helmer Scientific team will have the opportunity to meet with transfusion professionals from around the globe.
Slated to kick-off this year’s event, James Orbinski, OC, MSC, MD, MA will be the opening session speaker. Formerly the president of Doctors Without Borders, Dr. Orbinski is the author of An Imperfect Offering: Humanitarian Action for the Twenty-First Century. With his expertise in global medicine and infectious diseases, Dr. Orbinski has earned a plethora of honors and accomplishments.
A hot topic at this year’s Annual Meeting will be the Zika virus and its impact to transfusion medicine. This session will describe background information on the virus, its epidemiology, clinical outcomes, and public health considerations. In addition, there will be a description of the outbreak in Brazil as well as interventions that have been introduced in the United States using investigational NAT assays including experience to date.
