There are times when life throws a curve ball in your direction. It is at these times that friends, family, and even strangers step in to make a difference. That is the spirit behind the Helmer Scientific Generosity program; to spread a culture of generosity by collaborating together to support those who need it most.
When long-time Helmer customer, Ochsner Medical Center, contacted Helmer after this summer’s devastating floods in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Helmer Scientific Generosity Team got to work. More than 600 Ochsner employees lost their homes to the flooding, a majority of which were in non-flood zone areas. Collection sites were set up at Helmer, and within two weeks the donations were ready to ship. Two skids of needed supplies including air mattresses, pumps, box fans, laundry detergent, towels, wash cloths, pillows, bedding, and other life essentials were shipped. In addition, gift cards totaling $450 and a $500 Helmer Grant were provided for additional assistance. Langham, Helmer’s shipping partner, teamed up to ship the goods to Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
It takes a long time for a community to recover from the devastation of a major flood. Even while the employees of Ochsner are managing their own struggles, the Ochsner Medical Center remains open and ready to serve its community. Helmer Scientific employees have recorded a video about the Ochsner Flood Donation service project and submitted it to Super Service Challenge 2016. $1M will be given away through the Super Service Challenge to support worthwhile causes. If you would like to help provide extended support to Ochsner Medical Center, vote for the Ochsner Flood Relief video at https://superservicechallenge.com/video/helmer-baton-rouge-flood-relief.
